CBD for Anxiety

Science-Backed Benefits of Taking CBD for Anxiety

While there isn’t that much of it yet, the preliminary research we have on CBD’s effects on anxiety look very promising. With anxiety being something one in five Americans suffer from, there is a search for safe and natural ways to alleviate it. Millions are already taking CBD as a way to reduce various forms of anxiety they suffer from.

Here is what the latest research says about taking CBD for anxiety:

Effects of CBD on Generalized Anxiety

Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) is something that the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) has shared can be reduced by taking CBD. So far, studies that exist have looked at rats with GAD and noticed their levels of anxiety dropped after taking CBD. This included things like a reduction in heart rate.

Effects of CBD on Social Anxiety Disorder

A study done back in 2011 was looking into whether CBD could help people who suffered from social anxiety disorder (SAD). Participants in the study were taking 400 mg of CBD orally. At the end of the study, it was found that the overall levels of anxiety the participants had were dramatically reduced.

Effects of CBD on Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder

Several studies have looked into CBD’s role in reducing the symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The studies looked at whether side effects of PTSD, like night terrors and the constant replaying of negative memories, could be reduced. What they found was that CBD is effective in reducing these side effects, leading to PTSD being easier to manage than before taking CBD.

Effects of CBD on Anxiety-Related Neurological Disorders

CBD has also been looked at as a way to improve the health and well-being of people suffering from other anxiety-related neurological disorders. In 2017, a literature review found evidence that CBD has a positive effect on essentially any sort of anxiety-related issue someone may have. However, more studies and testing need to be conducted to see the extent of these benefits, and for how long CBD is effective in mitigating them.

There was a study done in 2016 that uncovered that CBD may have antipsychotic benefits for people suffering from schizophrenia. This is very promising because certain antipsychotic drugs are well-known to have severe side effects that people suffering from schizophrenia would like to avoid.

If you are someone who suffers from some form of anxiety, the research says that you may find safe and effective relief by taking CBD. More studies need to be done, but what we know so far is promising enough that can give you the confidence to give CBD a try and see if it reduces anxiety for you.
